Brew Guide : Espresso

Here is a guide to brewing espresso, including a list of materials you will need:

Materials:

  • Espresso machine
  • Espresso beans (freshly roasted, high-quality beans are best)
  • Burr grinder
  • Tamper
  • Portafilter

Instructions:

  1. Grind the espresso beans. Fill the burr grinder with about 7 grams of freshly roasted espresso beans and grind the beans to a fine, even consistency.
  2. Fill the portafilter with the ground coffee. Tamp the grounds to ensure an even distribution of pressure.
  3. Attach the portafilter to the espresso machine.
  4. Turn on the machine and let it heat up.
  5. Place the shot glass or demitasse cup under the portafilter.
  6. Start the brewing process. The machine should produce a shot of espresso in about 25-30 seconds.
  7. If desired, froth the milk using the milk frother to make a cappuccino or latte.
  8. Pour the espresso into the shot glass or demitasse cup.
  9. Enjoy your freshly brewed espresso!
